Setup Instructions

To connect your Decibel Sensor to your local WiFi network using the access point created by the sensor, follow these detailed steps:

Equipment Needed
  • Decibel Sensor
  • Computer or smartphone to connect to the sensor's WiFi network

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Plug in your Decibel Sensor

The Decibel Sensor will create a WiFi access point that you need to connect to.

2. Connect to the Decibel Sensor Access Point
  1. On your computer or smartphone, go to the WiFi settings and search for available networks.
  2. Find the network named AutoConnectDecibelSensor.
  3. Connect to this network.
  4. When prompted, enter the password provided.
  5. NOTE: If you cannot find the network name press the reset button on the board, this is the button to the right of the USB Power connector.
3. Access the Configuration Page
  1. Once connected to the AutoConnectDecibelSensor.
  2. Click on the Manage Connection icon (usually the ‘gear’ icon)
  3. Click on ‘Manage Router’
  4. Click on ‘Configure WiFi’
4. Enter Your Local WiFi Details
  1. On the configuration page, you should see fields to enter your local WiFi network details.
  2. Enter the SSID (WiFi Network Name) of your local WiFi network.
  3. Enter the Password for your local WiFi network.
5. Save and Reboot
  1. After entering the WiFi details, click on the "Save" button on the configuration page.
  2. The Decibel Sensor will save the settings and attempt to connect to your local WiFi network.
  3. Press the Reset Button on the board, this is the button to the right of the USB Power connector.
6. Confirm Connection
  1. Once the sensor reboots, it should connect to your local WiFi network and start sending data to the server.
  2. You can check the connection status by checking your router's connected devices list for the sensor.

If you want to add an extra layer of security by creating a hidden WiFi network, follow these steps:

On Your Router:
  1. Log in to your router's admin panel (this is usually done by entering the router's IP address into a web browser).
  2. Navigate to the WiFi settings section.
  3. Look for an option to create a new WiFi network or modify existing ones.
  4. Set the network to be hidden (there is usually a checkbox for this).
  5. Save the settings and reboot your router if necessary.
On the Decibel Sensor:
  1. Follow steps 2 to 5 in the main guide, but when entering your WiFi details, ensure you correctly type in the hidden SSID and password.
  2. Save the settings and reboot the sensor.

Troubleshooting Tips
  • Ensure the SSID and password for your local WiFi network are entered correctly.
  • Make sure the local WiFi network is within range of the Decibel Sensor.
  • If the sensor does not connect, repeat the steps to ensure all details were correctly entered.

By following these steps, your Decibel Sensor should be connected to your local WiFi network and start sending data to our UK based server.

The decibel sensor will send the following information around every 60 seconds, the sensor does not recieve any data.

All data is stored in the United Kingdom.
